BUBR FAQ

GENERAL

BUBR is a movement dedicated to inspiring the Black community to lead active and healthier lives through cycling. Since launching in 2020, we have grown from a single ride into a registered charity (Charity Number 1208033), delivering over 40 wellness activations, engaging more than 10,000 participants, and driving social impact across the UK and Africa.

Our flagship event is the annual 17-mile bike ride across London, a vibrant celebration of unity, empowerment, and community. In 2025 BUBRAfrica, our annual fundraising trip will be heading to Cape Town in support of:

Bonga Cycling Academy – Supporting youth empowerment through sport and education.

Khaltsha Cycling Academy – Breaking barriers for women and girls through cycling, mentorship, and education.

We will also be extending our main ride to Manchester. Sign up to our newsletter, follow us on Instagram and join our Facebook group for all event information and community stories.

Research by Sport England shows that only 57 percent of Black people in the UK are considered active, a lower percentage than most other ethnic groups.

BUBR exists to:

  • According to Sport England data, only 27% of U.K. Black communities participate in cycling – which is lower than nearly all other ethnicity groupings. When it comes to all sporting activity, Black communities have the lowest level of participation across all ethnicity groups at 49%.
  • Create a safe and inclusive space where people of colour feel welcomed and inspired
  • Challenge underrepresentation and drive change across a multitude of activities and sport
  • Promote wellness beyond cycling, embracing fitness, mindfulness, and community connection

BUBR is powered by an incredible team of volunteers who help make our rides and activations possible. Whether as a ride marshal, ground staff, or event supporter, volunteers are the backbone of our movement.

One volunteer shared:“It’s an honour to serve. I’m far from a pro, but BUBR really exposed me to the joys of cycling and the relationships I’ve built.”

  • Volunteer registration opens on 17 April 2024.
