BUBR FAQ

GENERAL

BUBR is a movement dedicated to inspiring the Black community to lead active and healthier lives through cycling. Since launching in 2020, we have grown from a single ride into a registered charity (Charity Number 1208033), delivering over 40 wellness activations, engaging more than 10,000 participants, and driving social impact across the UK and Africa.

Our flagship event is the annual 17-mile bike ride across London, a vibrant celebration of unity, empowerment, and community.

BUBR Africa has delivered fundraising rides across Ghana, Rwanda, and South Africa, supporting grassroots organisations and building lasting connections between the diaspora and the continent. Since 2023, these rides have raised over £36,000 for local charities, with impact extending well beyond the road.

Our next BUBR Africa journey takes place in Senegal in 2026, where we’ll be riding in support of the Banouna Ba Foundation, helping to improve access to education for girls — including funding bicycles so they can travel safely to and from school.

Alongside our international work, BUBR continues to grow in the UK, with flagship rides now taking place in London and Manchester, bringing more communities into the movement each year.

Research from Sport England shows persistent inequalities in access to sport and physical activity. Only 57% of Black people in the UK are considered physically active — lower than most other ethnic groups. Cycling participation is even lower, with just 27% of Black communities taking part. Across all sport and physical activity, Black communities have the lowest participation rates overall.

BUBR exists to respond directly to this gap.

We create spaces where people of colour feel welcome, supported, and confident to take part. We challenge underrepresentation in cycling and wider sport, and we work to shift who feels visible, included, and valued in these spaces. Our work also recognises that wellbeing goes beyond cycling alone — embracing movement, connection, and community as part of a healthier, more balanced life.

BUBR is powered by an incredible community of volunteers who help make our rides and activations possible. From ride marshals and ground staff to event-day support, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

As one volunteer shared: “It’s an honour to serve. I’m far from a pro, but BUBR really exposed me to the joy of cycling and the relationships I’ve built along the way.”

Volunteer recruitment opens on 18 February 2026. If you or your employer offer volunteering hours, these can be used to support BUBR events.
