The BUBR concept was conceived by community cycling collective Team ORIGIN on 16th July 2020. Just 15 days later, on Saturday 1st August 2020 we launched the inaugural BUBR event which led to a historical European first – where 1,500 Black people aged 8-68 rode a bike in solidarity through London on Black Pound Day.

Momentum was on our side, the weather, however, was not. 

We rode from Lowhall Playing Fields in Walthamstow to Shoreditch Park under biblical rain — torrential from start to finish. But the turnout we got said everything about how special this thing had become.

This marked the first of four consecutive years starting the ride from Leyton Sports Ground. We took riders through the city and down into South London, finishing at Brockwell Park, where food traders were waiting — and where the first iteration of what would become BUBR Fest, our post-ride festival, was born.

The route stayed East to South, point to point — this time finishing in Dulwich Park, where we had our most comprehensive BUBR Fest set-up yet. And yes, it rained again. But of course, that didn't stop us.

This year, we made history at the iconic Somerset House, hosting one of our pitstops there. It was a powerful, unforgettable moment — one that will live on in the BUBR story forever.

This year was the last time we took on the route from Leyton Sports Ground to Dulwich Park — bringing a special chapter of BUBR's history to a close. DJ AG sent us off on the decks that morning, setting an energy that carried through what turned out to be a truly memorable final ride on this course.

This year brought a new concept and a new route for BUBR London — the first time the ride has started and finished in the same place. Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park played host as our new home base, and the route itself delivered a landmark moment of its own, taking riders across the iconic Tower Bridge.
