Greetings, folks! As you prepare for the BUBR Africa 2025 tour, I wanted to share some insights and options to help you book your flights with ease. When it comes to flying with your bike, a few key details can make all the difference in your travel experience.
Direct vs. Indirect Flights: Consider Your Bike Box
Once you've decided whether to fly direct or indirect, the next big consideration is the cost of that extra 23kg—your bike box. It's essential to choose an airline that accommodates your gear without breaking the bank. From my research, both Ethiopian Airlines and Qatar Airways offer 'Economy' passengers a generous 2 x 23kg checked baggage allowance. This is particularly useful if you're traveling with your bike, as many other airlines only provide 1 x 23kg.
Flexible Payment Options
If spreading the cost of your flight is something you're interested in, check out Alternative Airlines. They offer the option to pay for your flights in installments, making it easier to manage expenses leading up to our adventure.
Ethiopian vs. Qatar Airways: Which is Best?
After comparing prices between Ethiopian and Qatar Airways, Qatar seems to come out on top. Not only do they offer competitive pricing, but they also provide an installment payment option. Additionally, Qatar Airways offers the flexibility of flying out from either London Gatwick (LGW) or London Heathrow (LHR), which could be convenient for many of you.
Track Flight Prices with Google Flights
Another useful tip is to use Google Flights to track flight prices. Simply search for your preferred route and dates, then toggle the “Track prices” option. Google will notify you of any changes in price, helping you find the best deal. This feature can be a game-changer, especially if you’re waiting for a price drop before booking your flight.

In addition to Google Flights, Skyscanner is another excellent tool for finding and booking flights. Skyscanner allows you to compare prices across multiple airlines and booking sites, ensuring you get the best deal. You can also set up price alerts and explore flexible date options to find the most affordable flights.
Proposed Flight Itinerary
For anyone interested, I'm considering the following itinerary:
- Outbound: LGW to CPT, departing on April 30, 2025, and arriving in Cape Town on May 1, 2025.
- Return: Departing CPT on May 10, 2025, around 13:00hrs.
